Phoenix Petroleum President’s speech on the Calaca terminal and depot opening

Phoenix Petroleum President and CEO Dennis A. Uy gave this speech on the opening of the Phoenix Petroterminals and Industrial Park and depot in Calaca, Batangas on July 23, 2009.

Esteemed guests, Team Phoenix, ladies and gentlemen, good morning. Thank you for joining us in the blessing and inauguration of the Phoenix Petroterminals and Industrial Park, and the Phoenix Petroleum terminal facility.

When we launched the Phoenix brand in 2005, our goal then was to be the brand of choice in Mindanao. We opened our first station in Davao in July 2005. We did not expect to compete nationally. But when the opportunity came for us to expand to the rest of the country, we realized we could dream higher.

We opened our Marikina station, our first in Luzon, in October last year. Now, our Luzon stations total 17. Phoenix has also opened in Cebu. In Mindanao, we have 94 stations.

These small steps are the start to fulfilling a greater dream: to be the number one independent oil company in the Philippines in the next few years. It is ambitious, but we dare to dream, because we know what we can achieve.

In July 2007, Phoenix Petroleum became a publicly-listed firm, the first oil company to list on the Philippine Stock Exchange since the 1998 Oil Deregulation Law was passed. The proceeds from the IPO enabled us to expand further, and allowed us to deliver promised returns. Today, we have 112 stations nationwide, making Phoenix the fastest-growing oil company in the country.

The Phoenix Petroterminals and Industrial Park, formerly Batangas Union Industrial Park, has a strategic value to us in terms of location, port facilities, land inventory, and the synergies we have with the locators.

The Phoenix terminal storage facility that we inaugurate today is our biggest yet, with a capacity of 50-million liters. This will be our hub in Luzon, which comprises 60 percent of the market in the Philippine petroleum industry. This terminal will enable us to expand further in the island and serve major industries, from shipping to manufacturing to airlines such as Cebu Pacific. The operation of our Calaca terminal, along with other depots across the country, brings our total storage capacity to 78 million liters.

We are prudently expanding, believing that with challenges come opportunities that must be seized. More than that, we want to make Filipinos proud of our homegrown company. With every depot and station that we open, with every distributorship agreement sealed, we give employment to more Filipinos and touch the lives of each family

We thank our customers, dealers, business partners, investors, bankers, suppliers, and the media for believing in us from the start. Your confidence and support have empowered us to aim to be the brand of choice not only in Mindanao but the entire Philippines.

I also thank the members of Team Phoenix, whose individual and shared efforts have propelled this company to greater success. Our work is guided by the core values of Integrity, Innovation, Service, Teamwork, Excellence, and Stewardship.

At Phoenix we go by the mantra of “People, Passion, Performance, and Innovation.” Dedicated people who work with passion, who deliver results, and keep that entrepreneurial attitude are the keys to consistent growth. Indeed, our people are our greatest competitive advantage.

As we mark another milestone in the young history of Phoenix, I again thank everyone for being with us. I fully believe that with a clear vision, effective work, your support, and God’s grace, we will succeed in our goals.

Thank you and please join us as we raise a Phoenix in Luzon.
