Phoenix Premium 98 Amateur Open starts August 14

Cebu—The province’s top amateurs start their title bids in different divisions when Phoenix Petroleum launches the Philippines Phoenix Premium 98 Amateur Open presented by Mechatrends at the Cebu Country Club on August 14.

More than 100 players are confirmed to play in this first stop of the three-leg series put up by the Phoenix Philippines Foundation to create a new avenue to discover new talents and help in the country’s amateur golf development.

“We are excited to get this series underway. We are hopeful on the turnout of all three legs, especially by young kids encouraged to try the sport,” said Raymond Zorrilla, Phoenix Vice President for External Affairs.

Sponsored by Magsaysay Transport & Logistics and BDO Unibank, the Premium 98 Am Open is part of the foundation’s long-term program for the sport, which Phoenix believes would bring glory to the Philippines in the near future.

“We have to prepare for the future now that golf is recognized again in the 2016 Olympics. It would be best to plan ahead to nurture, develop, and continuously train Filipinos with potential to be champion golfers,” Zorrilla said.
Pioneer Insurance, Foton, Tata Motors, GPS Tracker and Miura are hole-in-one sponsors while Landbank, Mercedes-Benz, Union Bank, Trans Overseas Industrial Corp. and Green Future Innovations are backers.
